It is also a well known fact that the United States has a constitutionally mandated Supreme Court. However, the court is not subject to the same kind of democratic process. Nevertheless, it is a great way to ensure that a new law isn’t passed in a haphazard fashion.
One of the most important aspects of a good democracy is its ability to foster debate. The more open a debate, the better off the citizens are. Consequently, many societies have developed a number of democratic institutions.
One of these is the right to protest. A peaceful assembly is a basic human right. But only when necessary can a government restrict its citizens from gathering in a crowded public place.
Among other things, a good democracy must protect its citizens from cruel punishment and provide for the redress of grievances. Also, a good democracy must allow for the creation of civic organizations independent from the state.
Lastly, a good democracy must be able to reconcile social and ethnic divisions. Although there are various types of democracy, there are a few basic tenets that all democratic systems must adhere to.
